Follow Up

We went to the ENT this afternoon. Our regular ENT wasn't working today, so we saw her partner. She was incredibly nice, but unfortunately Carter was not interested in letting her look in his ears! I had to physically restrain him (which was so sad), but once she got in there, she had to suction tons of yucky dried blood etc. Then, she finally pulled out what the pediatrician thought was a sponge yesterday - it was actually :sorry this may get gross: a mass of tissue and blood wrapped up around his ear tube!

Apparently the tube must have fallen out and somehow it caused a TON of bleeding, which led to it getting infected and yucky. I asked if it was normal for the tube to fall out like that (in such a dramatic fashion LOL), and she said no way! She said she wouldn't call Carter abnormal...she'd call him exceptional :)

His other ear was also infected today, but the tube is still in there. So the right tube came out today and we'll have to do drops in both ears to get them both healed up. And the watch for new ear infections begins again :(

Carter HATED every single minute of the ear suction, but the nurse was sweet enough to get him some candy and stickers afterwards, so we survived!

The icing on the cake was when Ryan and I walked out of the ENT's office, only to find that the battery on my car was dead! What a stressful, terrible week and it's only Wednesday...thank goodness Ryan was there with me, so we went and got a new battery and were able to move on relatively quickly. Phew!

Let's hope things can only go uphill from here :)

Scary, then funny, then back to scary afternoon!

I picked up Carter from Meme's today, and he cried to leave, as he's done anytime we have to leave anywhere lately. It was so sad and broke my heart. So we go to Target and I promise him a treat, and I realize I have M&Ms in my purse, so I give him a few.

We are strolling down the aisles leisurely, when I look down and notice that he has BLOOD running our of his ear! I FREAKED OUT! It was just so unexpected! I called the pediatrician's office immediately and as I'm on the phone with her explaining what's going on, it suddenly dawns on me that perhaps he SHOVED A RED M&M in his ear!! LOL So I'm laughing, and the receptionist is laughing, and I try to look in his ear to see if it's candy or blood!!

To make a looong crappy evening short, we go to the pediatrician's office to be sure about what's going on, and it is clearly blood as it keeps running out of his ear for HOURS! The pediatrician saw us, she tried to clean it out a bit so she could see what's going on, and she *thought* she saw a foreign object like a sponge or something, but she said there was way too much blood to really tell, and she didn't want to press whatever it is further into the ear.

So we call the ENT on call from the pedi's office, meanwhile I'm thinking that we have an ER trip in our future...but the ENT told the pedi to prescribe some antibiotic drops and some other drops to stop the bleeding, and we can go in first thing tomorrow morning to find out if a) it's a foreign object, b) it's a scratch or something or c) it's something else.

I finally put the drops to stop the bleeding around 7:45 and it had at that point been bleeding for four hours! But luckily the drops worked and he seemed ok and went to bed.

Such a stressful afternoon!! Hopefully it's nothing major, but it was scary! I guess we'll find out tomorrow...

And as a footnote, I tried to ask Carter what happened, and it went something like this:

Mama: Carter, did you put something in your ear?
Carter: No.
Mama: Are you sure?
Carter: No.
Mama: Carter, seriously, listen to Mama. DID YOU PUT SOMETHING IN YOUR EAR?
Carter: Yes.
Mama: Really?? What?? Did you put M&Ms in your ear?
Carter: Yes!
Mama: Really? Did you really put an M&M in your ear??
Carter: No.
Mama: Ok. Did someone else put something in your ear? Did Jake put something in your ear?
Carter: Yes.
Mama: What, baby? What did he put in your ear??
Carter: FISHIES!! :points to fish tank:

ACK!! Haha

He never ceases to surprise me!

Carter and I were just playing with some farm animals that he got at his birthday party (thanks Max and Kylie and RheAnne), and he likes to count them and put them in and out of the bucket they came in.

So we counted them on the way in, and as I looked away, he started to take them out of the bucket and count them...in SPANISH! He got all the way up to NINE! And I've never heard him count in Spanish before at all ever! haha

I know we watch a lot of Dora, but I guess his little brain is really just soaking everything in all the time, even when Mama isn't paying attention :)

I was able to catch some of it on video!

25 weeks pregnant!

It's moving along so quickly...she'll be here before we know it!

Big day...

Carter had his 2 year checkup this morning, and it was an eventful appointment to say the least.

His stats are: 34.5in & 27lbs 11oz

At his appointment a month ago, Dr. Huval commented that she heard a heart murmur. She was very reassuring it was likely a very benign murmur, and could have been because he was fighting a viral infection, but she said if it hadn't gone away by today's appointment, we'd have to see a cardiologist and do a little workup.

Well, the good news is that his developmental skills were awesome and he can do some things that some 4 year olds are doing, but the bad news is that he still has the murmur, so we had to head off to the hospital to do a chest xray and EKG.

The EKG was a breeze! The tech was so awesome and she has a son two weeks older than Carter, so she was singing to him and talking him through everything. He was able to sit on my lap and they put the stickers on his chest, and she counted with him and everything. She also gave him stickers to hold on to. He was soooo good and just sat there and watched everything.

The chest xray was not so fun (mostly for me :( I was able to go in the room, but had to leave before she took the pics because I am pregnant. Ryan stayed, and I could hear Carter screaming "I wanna go see Mamaaaa!!" It broke my heart. It was the longest five minutes of my life. Ryan said that Carter was mostly upset at having to have his arms lifted and then being forced to sit so still. They didn't have to put him the tube thing, so that was a huge relief.

I bought myself a coffee at the coffee shop on the way out, and they had a huge chocolate chip cookie, so I bought that for Carter and me to share...so we're all feeling better now. Haha He's on the couch watching Dora and I know he'll crash in a few minutes. It was a big day, but it's all over for now!

So let's hope the cardiologist and pediatrician look at the tests and determine it's nothing to worry about!

Birthday requests

Mama: Carter, what do you want for your birthday?
Carter: a fire pruck!
Mama: and what else?
Carter: cake!
Mama: and what else?
Carter: balloons!
Mama: anything else?
Carter: Hmmmm...chili dogs!!

Let's see if his party lives up to his expectations :)

Big boy room!

I've mentioned a few times on here that Carter was moving to a big boy room, so the new baby could sleep in the nursery. Here are some pics of the almost finished product! I'm still looking for curtains and a small bookshelf to go near the door. The little bookshelf is a tv stand hand-me-down, and I'll probably replace it with something dark wood to match the bed.

I also have felt over the edge of his bed to protect the wood from little fingers banging on it :)

Fun Birthday Plans

When I went to get Carter out of his new bed this morning, I was singing the birthday song to him...only to have him say, "No Mom. No singing!" LOL Either I'm a bad singer or he's not a morning person.

Happily, cinnamon rolls did the trick to get him more excited, and Amie and Nanny Kayla came over and met us so we could head out the Play and Learn With Me, an little gym place near here for toddler. The place was adorable! We did a Play Pass, which means we basically got to do free play for about an hour.

Carter LOVED it! (so did I!) Here are some fun pics from our morning:

After that, we walked over to a little donut shop, where Carter leaned on me and said, "I'm so tired!" :) Unfortunately, it was only about 10:30am, so we went to Barnes and Noble for a bit to let the birthday boy play with the train table.

Then for lunch, we were lucky enough to have Dad, PaRandy, Meme, and Nonnie come meet us at Jason's Deli for some tasty food. Carter was thrilled to get strawberries and ice cream of course :)

After naptime, as I was sitting with Carter reading some books, I asked him if he had a good birthday, and he said, "Yeah I did!" so I take that as a success ;)

Happy Birthday Carter!

It's been the most amazing two years! We love you so much!!

In the blink of an eye...

The past two years have gone by so quickly, I feel as if I blinked and there he is, my little baby on the last night he's still one year old. We went out tonight to see the Harry Potter movie, and Ryan and I remembered going to see the fifth movie just days before I delivered Carter two years ago. I was secretly happy that when we got home, he was still awake with Meme, so I was able to snuggle him and kiss him and just remember him being my tiny newborn baby.

I remember being so nervous/anxious/scared on July 15, 2007, as I was admitted to the hospital for my induction. If only I'd known what a sweet, funny, smart child we'd have, I wouldn't have worried at all.

Two years ago tonight (don't I look excited? haha):

Life is always better at the beach...

The Destin trip was amazing and fun as always. It really was one of our best vacations ever - the water was so gorgeous, and reminded me so much of all of our Caribbean vacations. It still amazes me that we can have such beautiful beaches and scenery a mere 6 hours from home.

I took over 1200 (YES, really!!) pictures, so I somehow managed to pare them down to about 100 and here are some sneak peeks. The entire album link is below.
