Belated Birthday Wishes

Labor Day weekend was one of the loveliest weekends I've had in a looooong time. I packed up with my best girlfriends Lindsay and Rene and my favorite adopted little sister Rebecca (Rene's sister), and we headed out to The Grand hotel in Fairhope, Alabama. While we knew that the resort would be a lovely blend of Southern charm and beautiful accommodations (including an awesome pool and water slide ;), we didn't realize ahead of time how absolutely GLORIOUS the weather would be! I'm used to still being in the 90s until late October, but we were SO lucky that a mild cool front came through and there was this delicious breeze that kept things feeling just perfect the entire weekend.

Unfortunately our other BFF Katie couldn't make it in time from Texas to join us, but she was sweet enough to send some treats to kick our weekend off in a great way!

Africa and other adventures.

Ryan left last Wednesday for a work trip to Equitorial Guinea.  It's been just five days so far without him, and both the kids and I are terribly lonesome.  This is the longest amount of time we've been apart in a long time, definitely the longest since we had children.  Carter started preschool a couple of weeks ago, and this week was a bit tough for him, probably partly because of the changes, including Daddy being gone.  Carter keeps talking about Africa and we've tried to discuss where it is, including looking at pictures on the internet, but he's only 3 and of course, he just doesn't quite get it.  Luckily Ryan will be home on Thursday and we hope the days go by quickly until then.

I spent this past weekend in Fairhope celebrating the lovely Rene Repp's 30th birthday.  Pics to come!
